New Year's resolutions are so 2018. This coming year, why not try setting some intentions instead?
As you know, resolutions are difficult to keep, and often leave you feeling disappointed in yourself. Instead, intentions are more about how you feel, achieving the best “you" possible, and finding your purpose each and every day.
For example, your past resolutions might have included wanting to lose weight; reframing it as an intention might be working toward having a healthy relationship with your body.
Here's how it works:
  • To determine your intentions for 2019, take a few moments to meditate and clear your mind so you can think deeply about what aspects of your life give you passion and purpose. Think about what is working in your life, as well as which areas could use a few positive changes.
  • Next, create a short word or mantra to sum up each intention. For instance, if you tend to feel impatient about the course of your life, you might choose something like “enjoy the journey," to signify that you are on a path toward progress, and it will take time to reach the end goal.
  • Lastly, share your intentions with a family member or close friend who can give you support and help you stay focused.
